Bath Iron Works
- 90,560 SF of Simultaneous Building Design
- $60M of New Construction
- Winner of the AGC Build Maine Award
Colby Co. provided the design for three projects in support of Bath Iron Work’s Facilities Upgrade mission. The designs included a new 50,000 SF 11-story Outfitting Hall; a new 2-cell Blast and Paint Facility; and a new boiler building. All three buildings were designed simultaneously and on a compressed time schedule to support BIW’s shipbuilding efforts. The Associated General Contractors of Maine awarded the project first place in the Industrial Category for 2016.
The $27M Blast and Paint Facility expanded BIW’s blasting and painting capacity for 3-deck high units, added dehumidification systems and upgraded adjacent facilities. The $31M Outfitting Hall is used for the construction and outfitting of hull sections weighing up to 400 tons. Colby Co. was the Prime Contract holder and provided the architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, fire protection and electrical design and construction administration services.
