We currently have an opening for an Electrical Designer with 5+ years of electrical design experience in a consulting engineering design firm setting.  We are looking for a designer who can prepare plans and coordinate drawings for a broad range of electrical engineering designs including voltage design, power distribution, control, communication, lighting, and fire suppression systems. The successful candidate will bring a deep, successful track record of design and quality control. In addition to an outstanding technical skill set, they will be a quick, flexible thinker and problem-solver who is accustomed to working in fluid teams on tight deadlines.

This position is a part of the Electrical Engineering Department. Additionally, Colby Co. offers mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, structural, civil engineering and architecture with our in-house staff.  You will have the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary design teams as many of our projects encompass more than one discipline. Projects range in size from $50,000 to $100M in construction value for State, Federal, Industrial and Commercial clients.

Desired traits:

•    Associates Degree with a technical, electrical or design concentration

•    5+ years of work experience in electrical design, or a related field

•    Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit

•    Ability to coordinate with multiple design disciplines

Civil Engineer

We currently have an opening for a Civil Engineer with years of experience in site design and planning, coordinating with multiple disciplines, and construction phase services in a consulting engineering design firm setting.  We are looking for an energetic individual who is interested in working on a wide variety of design and construction administration projects. In addition to an outstanding technical skillset, s/he will be a quick, flexible thinker and problem-solver who is accustomed to working in fluid teams on tight deadlines.

Desired traits:

  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D
  • PE License a plus
  • Experience with permitting, site design, layout and materials plans, grading and drainage plans, erosion and sedimentation control plans, pre and post-development drainage plans, roadway plans, utility cross sections, gravity sewers, pump stations, and stormwater BMPs.
  • Experience with local, state and federal permitting including Department of Environmental Protection Stormwater, Site Location of Development, NRPA, and US Army Corps of Engineers
  • Experience with site assessment, construction administration and construction management
  • Experience with Federal projects and an understanding of the United Facilities Criteria (UFC) a plus but not required.
  • Experience with HydroCAD considered a plus
  • Strong oral presentation and writing skills

Office Administrative Assistant

We currently have an opening for an Office Administrative Assistant with 1+ year of experience providing administrative support functions, experience in a Professional Services environment preferred.  We are looking for an energetic, detail-oriented individual with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities, multi-task and problem solve.  This full-time position is based at Colby Co.’s office in Portland, Maine, and requires on-site work Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a daily one hour lunch break. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage day-to-day office operations including kitchen and supply stocking, postage/shipping, office inventory, organizing work spaces, facilities improvements, and front office appearance
  • Welcome guests and answer incoming phone calls
  • Assist with planning company events including parties, outings, fundraising efforts for community programs
  • Coordinate and assist with staff training sessions including lunch and learns
  • Assist with coordinating project submissions
  • Occasionally conduct local errands: picking up catering and supplies for events, pick up and drop off of printed materials, dropping off or picking up company vehicles for maintenance, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in relevant discipline or high school diploma with equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of administrative experience, in a Professional Services environment preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with demonstrated expertise in Word and Excel
  • Positive, professional, strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, including proofreading
  • Valid state issued Driver’s License

Structural Engineer

Responsibilities: 

  • Research, plan and design a variety of buildings and non-building structures for government, industrial and commercial clients 
  • Prepare code compliant plans and coordinate drawings for a broad range of designs utilizing reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry and wood framing systems
  • Work on multidisciplinary design teams, primarily in house but also subconsultants
  • Collaborate with the all disciplines to prepare presentations and produce documents from schematic design through to the construction phase
  • Conduct and document site visits, process submittals, substitution requests, and RFI’s during construction

Desired traits:

  • Experience with the design of reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry and wood framing systems
  • Experience with RISA 3D and the RISA suite of structural analysis software or similar structural analysis software.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • PE License considered a plus, but not required
