An installation entitled Uplifted Ground by artist Michael Singer was recently installed between the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport terminal and the Consolidated Rent-a-Car (CONRRAC) facility. As stated by the City of Austin’s press release, “Uplifted Ground provides the traveler with the experience of being flanked by a sculptural rise and fall of 361 earth-toned, grounded, and suspended geometric-shaped sculptures with relief patterns. The patterns are derived from aerial imagery from throughout central Texas, abstracted and cast into concrete, with additions of copper, aluminum, Llano Uplift granite, and 256 LED lights to reflect and project a subtle glow. Some of the sculptures will be suspended from an overhead steel structure with over 4,000 linear feet of steel cable. The artwork will also extend on to the plaza of the CONRAC.”
Colby Co. provided structural and electrical engineering and construction administration services in support of the sculptural landscape at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Austin, Texas.
